Today Hastings County joined the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte, along with local dignitaries, and members of the public in celebrating the ribbon cutting ceremony of the new Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services ambulance base located in Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory.

In February 2024, Hastings County Council approved Hastings/Quinte Paramedic Services establishing an ambulance service on Mohawk Territory in partnership with the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte. The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte along with the Emergency Health Services Branch (EHSB) of the Ministry of Health engaged with Hastings-Quinte Paramedic Services to support the operation of land ambulance services on their territory 24 hours a day, 7 days a week operating out of the Mohawk Fire Hall. The Ministry of Health will be providing 100% of the operating costs each year with a proposed contract for service in place for a minimum of 8 years.

“Hastings County is pleased to celebrate the opening of the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory Ambulance Base, in partnership with the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte and Ministry of Health. I look forward to seeing the positive impact that this new base will have on the operations of our service and the emergency response for the residents of the Tyendinaga Mohawk Territory,” stated Warden Bob Mullin, Hastings County.

"The Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte are thrilled to have entered this new partnership with Hastings County and the Ministry of Health. It will greatly improve service delivery on-territory and impact the overall health and care of our community members," said R. Donald Maracle, Chief of the Mohawks of the Bay of Quinte.
